I could have not selected a better book. Sometime back in the 60"s @ about 14-16 years old I tried and succeeded in obtaining my Novice License I was a geek then. Because I did not have the funds to continue (a radio) I let it die. From 1975 t0 1982 I worked in the electronics industry designing circuit boards. Although Electronics theory was not necessary to do this drafting function it was convenient to be surrounded by brilliant Electronic Engineers and Technicians. I left this position in 1982 and pursuid a career in Business Management. Then in 1993 I told my wife I was going to attempt to try to get my Technicians ticket on a whym. ( I long since lost any credentials of my earlier endeavor. Low and behold I passed, but again put it on the shelf not to use my new ticket to talk on VHF. This time I i renewed my ticket as required so I am still current.About three weeks ago a neighbor also a Ham walked by and said you should upgrade, you do not need the code and you can talk to the world.. This got me thinking so I got on Amazon.Com ans searched for books.
I found Buck's Book and ordered it.
One week from the day I received it I took and passed my General exam test (they told me I missed 4 answers)
I can tell you get the book, read it cover to cover two times (lite reading) take a online test once then go for it.
It worked for me I am now General cant wait wait till his Extra Book comes out

Teaches you what you need to know for the test, without a lot of extra information to confuse your brain. I took the tech and general back to back, and the correct answers just popped out to me. I used this book plus hamstudy.org. I also took a shot at the Extra (because, why not, it's already paid for), and failed as expected.
I had been using free online test sites to study for my Tech license exam, reached the point where I aced them consistently, and still had about 10 days until my test date. Knowing that I could take additional tests on the exam date, I figured I'd at least take a look at the General question pool. I quickly found that the curve between Tech and General is steep. I wasn't going to be able to simply practice test my way through General, so I started looking for actual study materials and found this book on . I ordered it with Prime and had it in my hands Monday afternoon. The exam was Saturday morning.
The book takes a unique approach to presenting the info in a way that it can be very rapidly taken up. I don't know if this is a "trade secret" of the author's, so I won't go into detail here. I will say that the method is so obvious and simple that it's probably easily overlooked by most. The book teaches you the correct answers to all of the questions in the test pool along with easy ways to remember them, and it does so in a fast and pretty painless way.
Prior to receiving the book, I took one practice test and failed miserably. After my first run through the book, I took a practice test to see whether anything had stuck and I passed. I barely passed, but passed nonetheless. I spent the next five days rereading the book and took no further practice tests. On the eve of the exam, I was tired of studying, anxious, and wanted to get a temperature reading, so I started taking practice tests. I really didn't think I stood a chance and told myself that just getting the Tech license is accomplishment enough. And I didn't want to embarrass myself. I passed each of the five practice tests I took that night.
Saturday morning came, I went to the exam site, and I passed both Tech and General. So... I went from zero to HF in one leap and after having spent all of about six days studying. Don't get me wrong. I'm not claiming that I comprehend it all or even have the faintest clue as to what I'm doing, but now I have the freedom to begin the real learning process, hands on, and without the anxiety of having to pass the tests.
I'm 100% convinced that I could not have passed the General, with such a short lead time, without this book. I highly recommend it, and for reasons you'll learn when you read the book, I recommend it as your only study guide. I'll be purchasing the Extra Class book as soon as I get myself on the air.
Love this book. I read through the ARRL book but was not doing well on the practice exams. Seeing so many wrong answers with the right answers can be very confusing. I studied this book for a week and began reliably passing the practice tests. Finally took the real deal test and passed my General exam. The author has the right idea. By only showing you the right answer it is much easier to retain the info and not get confused. Highly recommend this series. Studying for my Extra now, and already bought the book from this series for my Extra.
I don't normally freely promote products.. Mainly because I expect products to be top quality with no need for promotion.
That being said, I have put off getting my General for years.. Not enough time and radio is not a priority.
I saw your post on Facebook and decided to give it a try. I am involved in education and I know the worst way to learn is to sit and "memorize". I decided to order your General book along with the Technician for my son. I read the General book over a period of 3 days. I love the way it is laid out...the answers in BOLD and no " fluff". Walked confidently into the the test session this morning. Literally 20 minutes later i received confirmation that I passed. I only missed 3 questions, and I am sure of which 3 i missed.... The darn digital questions...
My son is reading your tech book and will sit for the test next month.

Revolutionary in the staid, boring HAM radio study world...
I have a really tough time learning for standardized tests. This book was the best aid I have used. I took paid online courses but things just didn't click. Seeing the wrong answer over and over makes no sense. The way this book is written really works well for me. The exam questions and answers are clearly written in book form and your learning as you go along. I found it a very enjoyable read that flowed well. It's not filled with tons of useless data but just enough to enjoy "the story" After you read the book form of the answers you then reinforce your knowledge with the correct answers only section. The end is the exam questions with the correct answers again! I'm a cheapskate lol but this was money well spent. Passed easily! Thx you very much.
